Last month I helped host a baby shower for a dear friend of mine. This shower was particularly special to me because my friend and I were roommates for 4 years and we saw each other through a lot . When she married her husband, they planned to start their family right away, but it took a lot longer than they had anticipated. And when she finally got pregnant, it was such a joyous event – a long overdue blessing! The baby is due in just a few weeks, and I’m honestly thrilled for her and her hubby. They will make wonderful parents and I look forward to watching them grow as a family!
Before the shower, I checked in with her to see what her nursery colors/theme was. They were a Chevron pattern grey, yellow and white. For the decor, one of the girls put together these amazing sun flowers and white rose floral arrangements and we scattered them throughout the house.
I made this banner from scratch and hung this across the buffet. This can also be hung in the nursery, over a window or across the wall above the crib.
The event was a brunch, so we served Paula Dean’s Baked French Toast and Egg Muffins. Both are “go to” items and everyone loves them. Dawn and I had made both for our other friend’s shower back in December. You can see more about them here. We also served tea sandwiches, bow tie pasta with Swiss Cheese and Cantaloupe and tossed with Poppy Seed dressing (my sister in law turned me onto this salad.) This salad is delish! It’s super easy to make and even easier to enjoy. Also served were a green and fruit salad, as well as fresh veggies cups and Ranch Dressing.
For dessert we served cupcakes sprinkled with yellow and grey sugar and then topped them with printables that I made.
For a parting gift, I made cake pops and keeping with the color scheme, I used grey, yellow, and white chocolate and coordinating sprinkles!
To display the cake pops, I added a yellow ribbon and a “Thank You” tag to a tin bucket. You can find the bucket at IKEA in the garden section. I always use this for my cake pop display and depending on the color scheme, I change up the ribbon, the “Thank You” tag, and the shredded paper. My sister in-law turned me onto making these as well. Others I’ve made in the past include Elmo and Dora heads, baseballs, and assorted other colors. I really enjoy making these. They’re always such a hit! Not only with the kids, but also with the adults too.
All in all, the event was great! Thank you to all the people that took part in making this event so special for her.
For a gift, I hand painted this growth chart and attached yellow ribbon on the back for hanging. I made one similar to this in white and pink polka dots for my oldest daughter’s nursery. When I was making this one, my youngest daughter asked me to make her one. Poor second child, she got jipped! I told her I’d make her one, but have yet to get around to it. For a personalized touch to the nursery, I also painted a wooden “G” and attached yellow ribbon to it for hanging.
Last week, I had the chance to get together with my friend to photograph her bump before the big day. She looks amazing and the nursery is to die for. The growth chart fits perfect on the wall. And ooh, I can’t wait to get my hands on that little baby!
